The Trustees instructed the City of Belmont to engage Aha! Consulting to lead a comprehensive community consultation with the aim to understand the community’s aspirations for the ‘recreational use’ of Belmont Trust. These aspirations will be used to inform a strategy that is financially affordable and sustainable into the future.

The goals of the engagement include:

  • Building the community’s connection to the Belmont Trust land;

  • Ensuring future uses respect the significance of the site;

  • Support the Trustees to make informed decisions about the optimal community benefit from this land.

The community engagement process should take approximately 4 months to complete and is divided into two main consultation stages:

  1. Broad Engagement (February to March 2022)

  2. Community Panel (April to May 2022)

Broad Engagement

The broad engagement period has been completed. This stage allowed for all community members to have their say on the future of the Belmont Trust land and raised awareness of the area to the broader City of Belmont community.

A number of activities were planned during this period including:

  • Targeted workshop with key community representatives;

  • Distribution of an online survey to the City’s community via Belmont Connect;

  • Pop-up feedback activations at major retail outlets and selected City events.

Community Panel

The Belmont Trust community panel was formed to support the Trustees and other stakeholders in shaping the future of the site.

The panel was comprised of individuals who live or work in the City of Belmont and represent the views of the wider community.

Being part of this panel was more than just a chance to share ideas and insights. If selected to join the panel, individuals were:

  • Invited to attend workshops to learn about Belmont Trust in detail;

  • Work with the other members of the panel to explore and evaluate a number of factors and options involved in the decision-making process;

  • Give feedback which was compiled into a final report and evaluation, which will be presented to the City of Belmont Councillors as Trustees of the Belmont Trust and shared with the wider City of Belmont community.
